Peruvians find on the Internet a window for freedom of speech.

LIMA, PERU. October 9, - "How long can someone tolerate frustration?" This was the question three communication science bachelors asked themselves early this year. This feeling was directly associated with the political context their country was facing". Convinced there had to be a way to evade censorship, they came up with the idea of launching the first animated Peruvian story on the Internet. Peru is facing a very controversial political situation. Last September, President Alberto Fujimori announced the disbanding of SIN (National intelligence agency) and ordered early elections. The government's crisis was inevitable and there's still a strong possibility of a coup. "It's ironic to study communication sciences in this country. One soon finds out there is no opportunity to freely express an opinion without being exposed to threats from SIN," expresses Roxana Vasquez, marketing director for DK Project. "We could no longer wait for the situation to improve. We had to turn our attention to other audiences and media that are beyond this government's control," she adds.

Influenced by this context, DK Project tells the story of a secret agency division. Its mission: to destroy any bad product delivered by the entertainment industry. Each week a new animation is published in their website regarding themes such us movies, politics and music. It will pretty much cover anything that is on today's news. "DK Project has an ironic sense of humor. The content in our animations is easy to digest, simple and humorous says Ernesto Bottger creative director for DK Project. However, behind the jokes, DK ProjectÍs team wants to convey the frustration felt by the Peruvian society towards violence and censorship. "In some way, DK Project has been influenced by the abuse of this "hidden dictatorship government". The story is not focused on the Peruvian's society but the violence and intolerance we have witnessed gave shape to the story and the characters " adds Vasquez.

When asked what they expected from this venture DK Project's team answered that they would love to work in something they really enjoy doing. They see on the Internet a great media to achieve this goal. "We strongly believe there are great opportunities in cyberspace. Freedom of speech and access to massive audiences was a dream for every Peruvian five years ago. Now it is so real and only a click away. So how can we possibly not give it a try?" says Bottger.

DK Project's team is formed by three Peruvian friends, Ernesto Bottger (24), Luis Casuso (26) and Roxana Vasquez (24). They met at the University, while attending the communications science faculty. Bottger has developed his expertise in animations working freelance, drawing storyboards for films and TV commercials. Casuso has been working in e-business projects since and Vasquez works in the marketing department of a management consulting firm. The team is launching this website for an international audience. They target a young American male audience. They have chosen this target because they feel deeply influenced by the American pop culture. "Nearly 90% of the TV programs our generation has been watching since we where born were North American productions. With the introduction of cable the programming was not only the same, but also delivered simultaneously. We have laughed with their jokes and cried with their pains, now we want to share our opinion as well" says Vasquez. Ê
